Whether or not you wanted to get pregnant, having your first pregnancy appointment is a little exciting yet a little scary at the same time. This is something that is totally new to us therefore we’re a little bit out of our comfort zone. If you’re looking to see what your first appointment will be like, continue reading below.
It’s always better to be prepared for the things we worry about, than to not know what to expect.
Health history – First of all, the doctor is going to ask what your health history is like, and what your parent’s health history is like. This will be for the two of you (you and your partner.)
Urine sample – They will then get a urine sample from you. This will help determine once again if you’re pregnant, and will be able to test a few other things.
Vitals – To make sure you’re okay, they will take your vitals. These include blood pressure, heartbeat, your weight and height, etc.
Blood test – Your blood needs to be tested for a few different things at this point. They want to make sure your thyroid is good; you don’t have any diseases, that you’re really pregnant, etc.
Exam – They may also do a pelvic exam on you. They want to check to see if everything is normal, you’re disease free, and that your uterus is moving the way it should.
Educate – Your doctor will also educate you on the certain genetic diseases that are out there, tell you when your due date will be, and what you need to avoid doing and eating during your pregnancy.
Your doctor’s visit is nothing to worry about. You may be a little worried beforehand, but once you leave you will feel much better, relieved, and have all the questions you’ve been wanting to ask answered.
