Pregnancy is an immunological balancing act in which the mother’s immune system has to remain tolerant to the fetus and yet maintain immune competence for defense against microorganisms. It is usually expected to be a safe and healthy process and seeing a medical provider regularly throughout the pregnancy helps to ensure potential problems can be dealt with promptly before they become serious for the woman or the fetus.

Pregnancy is indeed private and decisions are to be discussed and determined in a family. To be pregnant is the potter’s wheel of creation; it is a joy to be cherished. A happy, healthy pregnancy is the path to a lifetime of maternal bliss and this stage is no time to diet. Every woman is different, depending on body type and weight before conception, but most women who deliver healthy babies gain about 25 to 35 pounds or more during pregnancy. Don’t skip meals as you and your baby need as much nutrition and calories as possible, although not the fattening kind so make sure you get a balance.

Ectopic Pregnancy

Ectopic pregnancy remains the leading cause of pregnancy-related death in the first trimester of pregnancy, but the good news is that they are not very common. They happen in about 2 out of every 100 pregnancies and cannot be carried to term and eventually rupture or involute. Early symptoms and signs include pelvic pain, vaginal bleeding, and cervical motion tenderness. They are nearly impossible to carry to term and usually result in spontaneous abortion. The condition is relatively common, occurring about once in every 300 pregnancies.

A Word to Women

Women who are pregnant and exercising should be able to pass the “talk test,” meaning they should be able to speak a sentence without gasping. They also need to pay extra attention to fatigue and discomfort, stopping when they feel either of these conditions.

And women of all ages may have unintended pregnancies, but some groups, such as teens, are at a higher risk. Women with an established abdominal pregnancy are likely to be uncomfortable but not sufficiently so to warrant thorough evaluation. Nausea, vomiting, flatulence, constipation, diarrhea, and abdominal pain may each be present in varying degrees.

But after everything is said and done, pregnancy is wonderful and women should definitely take good care of themselves while pregnant. This includes having all meals of the day, regular excises and checking your doctor every now and then.
